The Story Behind Socksmith
Socksmith started in downtown Santa Cruz in 1988, when Eric and Ellen Gil set out to bring a fresh, West Coast perspective to a novelty sock market dominated by East Coast competitors. What began as a small local shop has grown into an industry name, now designing around 450 new sock patterns each year through an in-house team of six graphic designers. That same creative, laid back Santa Cruz spirit still runs through every design, whether it features animals, food, historical figures, or licensed characters like Coca-Cola.

Every Socksmith design starts in-house, giving the brand full creative control over the playful, detailed artwork that appears on each pair.
