VIBRAM

Vibram has defined performance outsole technology since 1937, when Italian mountaineer Vitale Bramani invented the first rubber lug sole after losing friends to a mountaineering accident caused by inadequate footwear. Nearly 90 years later, the brand's yellow octagon logo remains a mark of quality across hiking, work, and everyday footwear. Explore our hiking shoes collection to see how Vibram soles fit alongside other performance focused footwear.

The Story Behind Vibram

Vitale Bramani founded Vibram in 1937 after developing the Carrarmato sole, replacing the heavy iron studs used on mountaineering boots at the time with durable rubber lugs. That same year, Bramani used an early sample to help conquer the North West face of Pizzo Badile, proving the design's real world performance. The company's name and iconic yellow octagon logo, adopted in 1967, remain a nod to Milan's Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II and the brand's Italian roots.

What Makes Vibram Different

Vibram produces more than 40 million soles each year, each tested extensively before earning the brand's signature yellow logo. The Megagrip compound offers exceptional traction on both wet and dry surfaces, while Ecostep incorporates recycled rubber to reduce waste without sacrificing durability. Vibram FiveFingers took the brand in a different direction entirely, creating individual toe pockets that replicate the sensation of walking barefoot, similar to the natural, flexible movement found across our walking shoes collection.
